Welcome to the Prince Edward Island Counselling Association (PEICA)

As the President of the PEICA, it is my pleasure to invite any Certified Counselling Therapists (CCT) and Canadian Certified Counsellors (CCC) to join our growing community of professionals. Our work as counsellors is deeply rewarding, but we recognize that it can often feel isolating. The PEICA is dedicated to bridging that gap, ensuring that every therapist on the Island feels supported, connected, and heard.

Membership with the PEICA is more than just a credential; it is an investment in your practice and our collective profession. You can join our association at any time by completing our online membership form available right here on our website.

What You Gain as a Member

We have been working diligently on several strategic initiatives designed to bring direct value to your professional life:

  • Social & Professional Connection: We are committed to "breaking the silos" of private practice. From casual breakfasts and luncheons to kayaking outings and formal PD events, we aim to bring like-minded professionals together for empowerment and community.

  • Monthly Ethics & Supervision (New Pilot Program): We are excited to launch a monthly ethics and supervision group. This is beginning very soon! This pilot program provides a safe space to consult on complex ethical issues. We will also be hosting an Annual Ethics Check-up, utilizing case studies to sharpen our collective standards of practice.

  • Informed Communication: Stay up-to-date without the clutter. Our Communications Officer, Judith MacKinnon, curates summary newsletters sent three times per semester (beginning, midpoint, and end), highlighting PD opportunities, training, and general news.

  • Public Visibility: All members receive a free professional listing on our website directory, making it easier for potential clients to find your services.

Advocacy & Strategic Direction

The PEICA Executive is your voice at the policy table. Our current strategic focus includes:

  • Funding Grant Strategy: As a non-profit, we are working to apply for grants to provide honoraria for members who present at public learning events. Furthermore, we are pursuing larger grants to cover service fees, ensuring professional counselling remains accessible to those in financial need.

  • Insurance & Direct Billing: We are continuously strengthening relationships with insurers to streamline the direct-billing process for our members.

  • Government Relations: We are actively engaging with provincial government agencies to ensure the expertise of PEICA members is recognized and utilized. By analyzing policy and providing recommendations, we ensure our profession functions safely within the laws of PEI while maintaining our high ethical codes.

Join Us Today

There is still much work to be done, and your voice makes our advocacy stronger. By joining the PEICA, you contribute to a safer, more regulated, and highly respected professional landscape on Prince Edward Island.

We look forward to welcoming you to our next event.

Warm regards,

The PEICA Executive Board
